Apple Bars

Apple Bars have a shortbread crust, a tart apple filling. These bars can be served warm with a scoop of ice cream or eaten on the move. They are perfect for any season!

Servings: 12 bars


Ingredients:

  • 2 Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored, and finely diced
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt


Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease a 9x9-inch baking dish. Set it aside.
  2. In a medium bowl, use an electric mixer on medium speed to cream the butter and sugar together until light and fluffy. Add the egg and continue beating for 2-3 minutes until the mixture is fluffy.
  3. In a separate bowl, sift together the flour, salt, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves.
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter and sugar mixture, mixing on low speed until just combined. Gently fold in the diced apples.
  5. Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish, spreading it evenly.
  6. Bake for 50-55 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  7. Let the apple bars cool for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.
