Apple Bars
Apple Bars have a shortbread crust, a tart apple filling. These bars can be served warm with a scoop of ice cream or eaten on the move. They are perfect for any season!

Servings: 12 bars
Ingredients:
- 2 Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored, and finely diced
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
Instructions:
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease a 9x9-inch baking dish. Set it aside.
- In a medium bowl, use an electric mixer on medium speed to cream the butter and sugar together until light and fluffy. Add the egg and continue beating for 2-3 minutes until the mixture is fluffy.
- In a separate bowl, sift together the flour, salt, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter and sugar mixture, mixing on low speed until just combined. Gently fold in the diced apples.
- Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish, spreading it evenly.
- Bake for 50-55 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Let the apple bars cool for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.
