Homemade Philly Cheesesteak Recipe
This Easy Homemade Philly Cheesesteak Recipe is made with tender, thinly sliced beef, sautéed peppers, onions and mushrooms and gooey, melted cheese on a toasted hoagie roll!
Ingredients:
- 1 lb ribeye steak, thinly sliced (freeze for 30 minutes to make slicing easier)
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 1 green bell pepper, thinly sliced
- 1 onion, thinly sliced
- 1 cup mushrooms, sliced (optional)
- 6-8 slices provolone cheese (or Cheez Whiz for a traditional option)
- 4 hoagie rolls or sub rolls
Instructions:
- Season the sliced ribeye with salt and pepper. Set aside.
- In a large skillet over medium heat, add 1 tbsp olive oil. Add the green bell pepper, onion, and mushrooms (if using). Sauté for about 5-7 minutes, or until the vegetables are soft and slightly caramelized. Remove from the skillet and set aside.
- In the same skillet, add the remaining 1 tbsp of olive oil. Add the sliced ribeye and cook, stirring occasionally, for 4-5 minutes until browned and cooked through.
- Return the sautéed vegetables to the skillet with the steak, mixing everything together. Reduce heat to low.
- Lay the slices of provolone (or drizzle Cheez Whiz) over the steak and veggie mixture. Cover the skillet for 1-2 minutes, until the cheese melts.
- Slice open the hoagie rolls, and fill each roll with the cheesy steak and vegetable mixture.
- Serve hot, and enjoy your homemade Philly Cheesesteak!
