Prep Time : 10 mins | Cook Time : 3 mins | Total Time : 13 mins
Ingredients:
- 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
- 1 egg
- 3/4 cup milk
- 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Powdered sugar (for dusting)
- Oil for frying (vegetable or canola)
Instructions:
- In a medium-sized bowl, mix together the flour, salt, baking powder, and sugar. In a separate bowl, whisk the egg, then combine it with the milk and vanilla extract. Slowly add the wet mixture to the dry ingredients, stirring until the batter is smooth.
- Fill a skillet or deep pot with about 1 inch of oil. Heat over medium heat until the oil reaches 350°F (175°C).
- Drop spoonfuls of batter into the hot oil using a spoon or cookie scoop. Fry each batch for 2-3 minutes, flipping midway, until the bites are golden brown.
- Use a slotted spoon to remove the bites from the oil, placing them on paper towels to drain excess oil. While they’re still warm, generously dust with powdered sugar.
- Serve immediately, either plain or with your favorite dipping sauces. These bites are best enjoyed fresh!
Notes:
- Add a hint of cinnamon to the batter or sprinkle with cinnamon sugar for a flavorful variation.
- Fry in small batches to maintain the oil temperature and ensure the bites stay crispy.
- Although best when fresh, leftovers can be stored in an airtight container for up to 2 days. To re-crisp, heat in the oven at 350°F for about 5 minutes.
