Louisiana Dirty Rice
Rich, hearty and full of flavor, Louisiana Dirty Rice is one of those delectably versatile comfort food recipes you’ll use all the time. Ingredients:
- 1 lb ground beef or pork (or a mix)
- 1/2 lb chicken livers, finely chopped (optional, for authentic flavor)
- 1 small onion, diced
- 1 green bell pepper, diced
- 2 stalks celery, diced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 cups cooked white rice
- 1 tsp Cajun seasoning
- 1/2 tsp smoked paprika
- 1/2 tsp dried thyme
- Salt and black pepper to taste
- 2 tbsp vegetable oil or butter
- 1/4 cup chopped green onions (for garnish)
Instructions:
- Heat oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the ground meat and chicken livers (if using). Cook until browned, breaking it into small pieces as it cooks.
- Stir in the onion, bell pepper, celery, and garlic. Cook until the vegetables are tender, about 5-7 minutes.
- Sprinkle in the Cajun seasoning, smoked paprika, thyme, salt, and pepper. Stir well to combine.
- Add the cooked rice to the skillet. Stir until the rice is fully coated with the flavorful meat and vegetable mixture. Cook for an additional 5 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.
- Remove from heat, sprinkle with green onions, and serve warm as a main dish or a hearty side!
